Midlothian Council is to observe a minute’s silence to remember those who have lost their lives at work. This year it is especially important as we will also pay tribute to the sacrifice of so many workers during the pandemic and to thank all those who continue to do vital work at great risk.
Employees and councillors from all parties, both in work and at home, will pay tribute at 11am on Tuesday on what is International Workers’ Memorial Day.
Council Leader Councillor Derek Milligan said: “Every year we commemorate workers from across the world who have died at work.
“This year is all the more poignant given the numbers of selfless workers who have lost their lives caring for others during this current pandemic. The minute’s silence allows us to remember all those who have died and show our support for everyone working during this unprecedented time.”
Councillor Milligan took the opportunity to thank workers across Midlothian.
He added: “These past few weeks have highlighted the compassion, resilience and commitment of workers across the county.
“They are all working very, very hard to keep local people safe and services running. I can’t thank them enough.”
