Aldi Plans at Mayshade Site

Written by Editor Phil Bowen

It is now 18 months since Aldi gave a public presentation on their plans to build a new store on the site of the Mayshade garden centre and it is a year since Midlothian Council granted their planning permission.

There is a lot of local interest in the store opening and a number of rumours as to why the work to build the store has not started.

Then yesterday it was reported that Aldi plans to create 300 new jobs in Scotland by opening six new stores this year but the Mayshade site was not one of the stores announced.

So today Midlothian View asked Aldi for an update on their plans and the timescales involved.

The Aldi spokesperson declined to give an update and when pressed to confirm whether Aldi plan to build a store on the site the spokesperson declined to confirm.

All the spokesperson could say was

“I’m unable to give a statement at this time. When new information is available, we’ll make you aware.”
