Monday August 24th 2015

The Scottish National Party members in Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale have given their unanimous backing to sitting MSP Christine Grahame to represent the Party at next May’s elections for the Holyrood parliament.

Following an SNP association meeting on Thursday evening at the Tontine Hotel, Peebles, Christine said:

“I was honoured to be formally endorsed as the candidate for the constituency which I have had the privilege to serve since 2011.

“I thank members for placing their trust in me once again and look forward to the campaign.”

Christine, a former teacher and lawyer, has been a member of the Scottish Parliament since 1999 when she was elected as a list member for the South of Scotland. She was re-elected in 2003 and 2007 before winning Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale from Liberal Democrat Jeremy Purvis four years ago with a majority of 4,924.

She has fulfilled an important role in the business of the Parliament, having convened four parliamentary committees and currently as convener of the influential Justice Committee since June 2011. She also chairs the Justice sub-committee on Policing.
