The Young Person’s Guarantee provides every 16-24 year old in Scotland with the opportunity of a job, placement, training or volunteering place. Funded by the Scottish Government, the scheme also connects employers with young people and provides them with the support they need to build their future workforce.

The Guarantee is an opportunity for local businesses to inspire pupils and college students to gain the skills they need for the world of work by providing work-based learning, training and upskilling opportunities.

Midlothian Council is working with employers, further and higher education providers and the third sector to support the scheme locally, and is now looking for expressions of interest from local businesses.

The Young Person’s Guarantee provides wage subsidies of £4000 (full time employment for 52 weeks) or £2000 (part time employment for 52 weeks) to support young people in new jobs. There’s also help for employers to prepare young people for the workplace along with advice and assistance on creating apprenticeship and learning opportunities.

To find out how taking part could benefit your business and help young people in the world of work, email Midlothian Council at CLL@midlothian.gov.uk or call 07880 251 052. More information is also available on the council’s website at www.midlothian.gov.uk/YPGuarantee or visit www.myworldofwork.co.uk/youngpersonsguarantee
