Letter Written by AC May

Dear Sir,

We, the Liberal Democrats, welcome the news that the Scottish Government will introduce a free year-round breakfast and lunch for all primary school pupils from August 2022.

Yet part of me wonders, with an election in May next year, the SNP having been in power since 2007, and the Scottish Government sitting on an estimated £1 billion of extra COVID-related funding (from the UK government through Barnett consequentials, according to the Fraser of Allander Institute), why only now?

Except it’s not now, is it? It’s August, not next year but next again.

I can just imagine Ms Grahame bending down towards the orphan Oliver Twist, “More? Yes you can have more…eventually, but only if Mummy & Daddy vote for me.”
