The Lasswade High School Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) 2019 was held last night with another spectacular show to rival the BBC production.
Individuals and teams from across Scotland’s second largest high school were brought together to celebrate their achievements in the last 12 months.
Awards were presented for the Player of the Year, Team of the Year, Future Stars, Pupil and Staff Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Services to Sport and the main prize Sports Personalty of the Year.
The night was energetically and enthusiastically compered by former pupil and Hearts FC host Mark Martin, with his combination of wit, fun and ability to keep everything on track the evening was enjoyed by a packed auditorium of pupils, parents, families and teachers.
Joining Mark on stage was an impressive line-up of sports stars;
The four nominees for Sports Personality of the Year were all put forward and voted for by pupils. Joe Noble (Rugby), Lauren Murie (Trampolining), Harris Spratt (Football) and Natalie Jones (Swimming).
Joe Noble was crowned Lasswade High School Sports Personality of the Year 2019.
The event was organised by the school PE Department and the Midlothian Active Schools team who ensure the success of sport at the school all year round. This academic year the school secured the Sport Scotland Gold Award.
Congratulating all the winners and thanking everyone for coming, Lasswade High School Headteacher said:
“The Sports Personality of the Year Awards night is always a highlight of the school year. I want to congratulate all the winners, the dancers, backstage workers and all who have organised this event tonight. Special thanks to Sarah McKay from the PE Department and Active Schools Coordinator Judith Clyne for making tonight’s event so fantastic.
“Sport is and always will be such an important of life at Lasswade High School.”
