Colin Beattie MSP has welcomed new statistics showing an increase in the number of Home Fire Safety Visits in the area and has paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of Scotland’s fire service.

New figures show that the number of Home Fire Safety Visits in Scotland rose from 56,251 in 2012-13 to 70,686 in 2013/14, including a rise from 7,386 to 11,831 in Lothian and Borders.

Commenting, Mr Beattie said:

“The men and women working in Scotland’s fire service do excellent work in our communities to promote safety and prevent fires – and these figures are a welcome example of their hard work paying off.

“Over the year we saw the number of Home Fire Safety Visits in Scotland rise by almost 15,000 – including an increase of 4,445 in Lothian and Borders.

“One death from fire is one too many so the fact that more people in our community are benefiting from home fire safety visits is welcome news – and I would encourage everyone in Midlothian North and Musselburgh to arrange their free Home Fire Safety Visit today.”
