A man has been arrested and charged following a bogus workman incident in Midlothian.
Staff at an RBS branch in Dalkeith contacted police on Thursday 28th July after an 85-year-old man made two trips to the bank and withdrew a four-figure sum of money for work being carried out on his driveway.
Officers carried out inquiries and attended at an address in Pentland View, Dalkeith along with Trading Standards.
A 42-year-old man was subsequently charged with Road Traffic Act and bogus workmen offences.
He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday 29th July.
Inspector Jim Gray from Dalkeith Police Station said: “Those responsible for these type of offences prey on the most vulnerable members of our communities and we want to send a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated.
“Thanks to the vigilance of bank staff we were able to respond alongside our colleagues from Trading Standards and stop one elderly victim from being defrauded further.
“I would urge the public to only use companies or individuals they know and trust to carry out work on your property. If you are unsure as to someone’s identity then do not allow them access to your home.
“In addition, our communities should also be vigilant for suspicious activity around the homes of vulnerable family, friends and neighbours and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.”
