Melville Road Bridge Damage 2

Midlothian View asked the council for an update on the repairs to Elginhaugh bridge on the Melville Road.

The road has been closed since the end of June when a lorry struck the bridge damaging it.

The road closure is due to continue for another week, to 21st August, whilst scaffolding is erected to carry out the repairs.

Once the scaffolding is in place, the road will be re-opened to two-way single lane traffic, under temporary traffic light control. Single lane traffic will be maintained whilst the bridge repair works are carried out.

The repair works are expected to take at least 2 months to complete, and possibly longer if the damage to the bridge proves to be greater than first assessed.
