Owen Thompson MP asks his question in the House of Commons

SNP MP Owen Thompson has ramped up pressure on the Prime Minister to come clean over his repeated refusal to publish a report into Russian interference in UK democracy – a decision that depends on Boris Johnson reconvening the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC).

At PMQs, the MP for Midlothian warned that the Tory leader has “form in ducking democratic scrutiny” and that the Tory party is “no stranger to receiving Russian donations”, but his continued suppression of the report and delays in establishing the ISC were “unjustifiable and unacceptable.”

Last month, SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford also wrote to the Prime Minister stating that

“The public interest and the imperative is and has always been clear: lift your sanction on publishing this (Russian interference) report and re-establish the intelligence and security committee so that it can be immediately published.”

The Prime Minister has still not replied to the SNP’s Westminster leader.

Commenting, Owen Thompson MP said:

“Boris Johnson has form in ducking democratic scrutiny and due process at every opportunity, while his party is also no stranger in receiving significant donations from Russian figures – including those linked to senior figures in the Kremlin.

“The Tory leader’s repeated refusal to publish the report into Russian interference in UK democracy and failure to reconvene the Intelligence and Security Committee is utterly unjustifiable and unacceptable.

“The actions of this Prime Minister are straight out of the Trump playbook.

“Johnson must now set out clearly – without his bluff and bluster – when the Committee will be established so the report can be released.”
