Michelle Ballantyne, South Scotland MSP, has called on everyone to show their backing for Carers Week which runs until Sunday.

Ms. Ballatyne says carers have gone above and beyond during this unprecedented crisis and many more have taken on unpaid caring roles throughout communities to look after some of our most vulnerable citizens.

The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP has used the week to call on the SNP Government to recognise the role that many unpaid carers play on a daily basis and ensure that they have the resources to provide financial and wellbeing support to relatives and loved ones.

Carers work at this time should never be forgotten the MSP says and everyone owes them a huge degree of gratitude.

Michelle Ballantyne MSP commented

“Our carers have truly gone above and beyond during the Covid-19 pandemic and their work should never be forgotten.

“During National Carers Week, I wanted to put on record my thanks for their incredible professionalism and recognise that many of them will have lost loved ones who they cared for during this crisis.

“Many more will have taken on unpaid roles caring for relatives and friends, whether financially or otherwise and I hope that in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the SNP Government will ensure that our carers have the resources in order to support those they love day in day out.

“We should all give our thanks during this week and all year round for our Carers and I will be continuing to look at measures to push for greater support to be given by the SNP Government to frontline workers.”
