New schools’ catchments survey

Monday September 14th 2015

Midlothian Council is asking for views on the proposed catchment area for the new primary school at Bilston. The consultation, which begins on Monday 14 September, will also cover proposed changes to the catchment areas of Loanhead, Paradykes and Roslin primary schools.

The changes, if given the go-ahead, would take effect for admissions from August 2016.

A spokesman said: “Two new primary schools are planned for the A701 corridor. The first is a new non- denominational primary school located at Bilston Public Park, Bilston, and the second is a replacement for Paradykes Primary School to be located at George Avenue, Loanhead.

“The new Bilston primary school is due to open in 2016 and in order to establish this new school with a sustainable pupil population, as well as to maintain those of Loanhead, Paradykes and Roslin Primary Schools, the council is proposing to adjust the catchment areas of these schools.

“We want to hear your views on the proposed changes.”

The proposals would mean:

  • All housing in Bilston would move from the catchment of Roslin Primary School to form the catchment area of the new school.
  • The residential areas at Damhead, Lothianburn, Nivensknowe Park, Pentland Park, Straiton Park and recently built houses at Corby Craig would also transfer from the catchment of Loanhead Primary School into the catchment of the new Bilston Primary School.
  • The residential areas in the vicinity of Mayshade Road and Park Avenue and housing development site h54 ‘Ashgrove’ would transfer from the catchment of Loanhead Primary School to the catchment of Paradykes Primary School.

The consultation begins on Monday 14 September and will run until Tuesday 3 November. Come along and find out more at two public meetings at the dates and times below.

Tuesday 6 October Roslin Primary School 7:00-8:30pm

Wednesday 7 October Loanhead Primary School 7:00-8:30pm

Paper copies of the short survey will be put in children’s schoolbags and will also be available in libraries. These can be returned to any Midlothian library or school or posted to Sandra Banks, Midlothian Council, Education Division, Freepost SCO 622, Dalkeith EH22 OBR.

More information can be found here where you will also be able to fill in the survey online at http://www.midlothian.gov.uk/A701corridor-catchments
