Rosewell Development Trust Ceilidh

Saturday January 16th 2016

Rosewell Development Trust works to secure good quality and fit for purpose community facilities. They aim to create a much needed hub in the centre of the village to improve social interaction which has decreased considerably in the past couple of decades. They need a place for people to meet casually, and a village centre, in order to revive and secure a sense of community.

Rosewell Development Trust works in partnership with Rosewell & District Community Council and they are now in the final negotiations with The Crown Estate regarding the transfer of the derelict Rosewell Mains Steading site to RDT. Their aim is to obtain funding to develop this site, and build a community hub, taking into account the community’s needs and suggestions, where locals and visitors can meet, with a good quality café/restaurant, arts and crafts, local produce markets, and fit for purpose activity space.

Their ongoing, shorter-term projects involve the development and creation of groups and workshops that community members can access to either socialise with others in the community, learn new skills through our voluntary and training opportunities, access CV and career guidance and encourage our children and young people to take an active role in learning and planning for their future as well as being involved in community events.

They are working in partnership with Rosewell & District Community Council, Midlothian Council (Regeneration Team and Community Learning & Development), Midlothian Voluntary Action, Social Enterprise Alliance Midlothian, Melville Housing, Castle Rock Edinvar and Volunteer Midlothian. They are working with an increasing number of organisations to deliver training opportunities, work experience placements and jobs to people within the Rosewell area.

Rosewell Development Trust is a not for profit organisation. All money raised is re-invested in their community. The Trust organise a variety of fundraisers throughout the year which in the past have included a Community Fun Run, annual Big Lunch Events, Quiz Nights and children’s parties.

Without their funders, People and Communities and The Robertson Trust, Rosewell Development Trust would not have been able to carry out the work they have been able to do to date.
