Usher Hall 2016

There’s still a chance to bag a ticket for this year’s Midlothian Schools Festival of Music concert at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

The concert, which has been organised by Midlothian Council’s Instrumental Music Service, working in collaboration with schools, is at 7pm on Thursday 17 November.

Some of Midlothian’s finest young musicians are returning to the Edinburgh venue for their annual musical extravaganza.

This year, the concert will feature around 400 young Midlothian musicians performing in some 11 ensembles.

The compere will, again, be the comedian, Eric Davidson. Eric will guide the audience through a very entertaining programme performed by Midlothian’s talented young musicians.

Councillor Bob Constable, the cabinet member for education, said: “I’m really looking forward to the event. This year, I understand, there’s going to be a lot more crossover between ensembles so rock band will be performing with the orchestra, we’ll have pipers on with the Training Wind Band and our award-winning Percussion Ensemble will play with Big Band – it sounds terrific. We also have a new arrangement of a King Creosote song for our Finale, specially written for the evening by local musician and former Lasswade HS pupil, Jonathan Grant.

“The commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved in organising this event is always remarkable and I would like to thank everyone, both young and old who are involved for their tremendous efforts.

“I’m certainly looking forward to the concert and I’m sure it will be a night to be remembered by everyone including musicians, their families and guests.”

Tickets for the event cost £9 and £5.

Tickets are available from the Usher Hall Box Office, Lothian Road, Edinburgh. You can also purchase tickets online at HERE, an additional £1 fee applies to online bookings.

The funds raised by ticket sales will be reinvested in Instrumental Music in Midlothian. The event is sure to be a sell-out so be sure to book tickets soon to avoid disappointment.
