St Mary’s and Burnbrae to share campus

St Mary's Primary

St Mary’s RC Primary School is to move to a new joint campus on the site of the former Hopefield Primary School. The Bonnyrigg campus will also provide extra capacity for Burnbrae Primary School.

Councillors agreed at the full council meeting on Tuesday to proceed with the building work and to start a formal consultation on relocating St Mary’s to the new site.

Midlothian Council’s cabinet member for education, Councillor Bob Constable said: “Although in May 2016, we agreed to build a new 2 stream, non-denominational primary school on the site of the former Hopefield, we decided to delay this decision until we’d taken a closer look at pupil numbers and primary school needs across Bonnyrigg and Lasswade.

“Having done so, we’re confident this is a better solution for both St Mary’s and Burnbrae as it will allow us to relocate St Mary’s to a new school but also allow Burnbrae to accommodate growing pupil numbers coming from the Hopefield Farm housing development and other developments.”
