Rainbow’s End has raised an impressive £3,100 for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland during the Spectacle of Light event at Dalkeith Country Park, which ran from 5th December 2020 until 4th January 2021. Almost doubling last year’s Wishing Tree amount of £1,728 during the first run of Spectacle. They were also able to donate to the charity through their Citizen Ticket purchase.

‘The Rainbow’s End’ in Spectacle of Light, Dalkeith Country Park’s recent festive light experience, was an area dedicated to raise money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland. Visitors to the event made contactless donations as they tied rainbow ribbons of gratitude between the park’s trees while thanking those who helped them through the difficult times we all saw in 2020.

The CHAS dedicated Rainbow’s End was a circle of gratitude throughout Spectacle of Light as Stephen Begg, sales and events manager at Dalkeith Country Park, said:

“It has been a difficult time for charities to raise money through this pandemic. As a CHAS charity partner, Dalkeith Country Park has always had donation boxes around our site. However, like so many businesses we are card-only for now and people in general are carrying less actual cash. It was a delight, therefore, to be able to trial CHAS’s new contactless donation machine at Spectacle of Light and raise vital funds for children with life limiting conditions and their families.

“We know from our colleagues at CHAS that 2020 was an incredibly difficult time for those families. Even more than in normal times. To be able to do this small thing to help these children experience the small joys that so many of us take for granted added an extra dimension of meaning to the fun and wonder of the Spectacle of Light journey.”

Rami Okasha, the chief executive of CHAS, added:

“I am so thrilled to hear the amazing amount raised at Dalkeith Country Park’s Spectacle of Light this year! In the face of a pandemic, event and cash-based fundraising seemed near impossible. It is a real joy to know that people have been so generous in donating to CHAS at our contactless donation pod and raising more than we could have imagined in this very uncertain climate.

“With the new restrictions in place, for many of the families we support, this will be a particularly lonely and frightening time. It is imperative that CHAS is there to support these families, in hospice, home and hospital, and help them through this most difficult of times. With the help of Dalkeith Country Park and the attendees of this magical event, we will be able to make this time a little easier and more joyful for so many children and families across Scotland.”
