SGN Newtongrange Emergency Repairs

One of SGN’s high pressure gas mains was damaged in Newbattle Road (B703), Newtongrange, Midlothian, on Wednesday 6 January.

Good progress has been made, despite poor weather conditions over the weekend.

SGN are working 24 hours a day and anticipate they will have a by-pass built around the damaged section of the pipe by the end of this week. This will allow them to replace the damaged section of the existing pipe which they expect to take another few days. The road will remain closed until their repair has been completed.

To ensure everyone’s safety, Newbattle Road will remain closed to both traffic and pedestrians between Galadale Drive and Newbattle Gardens while SGN work by the road. A signed diversion route is in place via the B6482 (Dalhousie Road), the A7, and the B6392 (Dalhousie Road). Access to Newbattle Abbey Crescent and the surrounding properties is being maintained via Eskbank. All businesses in the area remain open as usual.

SGN would like to assure the local community that there is no risk from the gas escape which has occurred as a result of the damage and our engineers continue to monitor this closely.

SGN thank road users and local residents for their continued patience while we carry out our repair.

SGN are doing everything they can to complete our work as quickly and safely as possible. This involves complex engineering, using specialist equipment. They will continue to provide updates as their work progresses over the coming days.
