SGN are continuing their work to dig around the section of damaged pipe in Newtongrange to carry out it’s repair. It is a lengthy process due to the scale of the incident but their engineers will be working throughout the night.
To ensure everyone’s continued safety, Newbattle Road remains closed to both traffic and pedestrians between Galadale Drive and Newbattle Gardens while they work by the road. A signed diversion route is in place via the B6482 (Dalhousie Road), the A7, and the B6392 (Dalhousie Road).
Access is being maintained to Newbattle Abbey Crescent and the surrounding properties via Eskbank. All businesses in the area remain open as normal.
SGN say that there is no risk to the local community from the gas escape which occurred as a result of the damage to the pipe and their engineers continue to monitor this closely.
