The 1st Dalkeith Boys’ Brigade has celebrated 90 years of providing opportunities for children and young people in Dalkeith to learn, grow and discover.

Kirsty McNeill, Labour and Co-operative MP for Midlothian, said, “A huge congratulations to the 1st Dalkeith Boys’ Brigade for 90 years of positively impacting young people’s lives, and with them, our communities.

“We are so lucky to have incredible youth organisations like the Boys’ Brigade in Midlothian, which provide fantastic opportunities for children and young people to make new friends, learn new skills and have fun. I’d encourage any young people interested in getting involved to go along to the group’s brilliant Friday night sessions in Dalkeith.”

The 1st Dalkeith Boys’ Brigade holds sessions on Fridays from 7:15 pm in St Nicholas Buccleuch Church Hall on Dalkeith High Street, where young people can get involved in activities ranging from orienteering to sports such as badminton and rounders.

In addition to the group’s Friday sessions, they also take part in residential trips at an outdoor facility at Loch Tay, sports competitions and the Duke of Edinburgh programme, as well as running an annual sleepover at St Mary’s Church in Dalkeith Country Park.

Matthew Bradley, Leader, 1st Dalkeith Boys’ Brigade, said “Those of us that have been part of the Boys’ Brigade have gained so much from it, with many like myself choosing to stay on as leaders to continue to provide this valuable resource to local kids. It’s a very gratifying experience to know that we make a positive impact on young people’s lives.”

With more than 750 local groups in communities across the UK, the Boys’ Brigade supports more than 20,000 children and young people today with the help of thousands of dedicated volunteer leaders.

Enquiries for children from P1 to S6 interested in joining the 1st Dalkeith Boys’ Brigade, and volunteers looking to support the group, may be directed to 1stdalkeithbb@gmail.com.
