Every so often, especially at festivals like the Fringe, dozens of shows capture our attention. Among these, Síomha Hennessy’s one-woman cabaret comedy show stands out, offering an honest glimpse into her life as a late bloomer. With original songs and humorous jokes, “30 Under 30” ascends in its appeal to entertain.

Síomha Hennessy is an Irish singer, songwriter, and comedian who rose to TikTok fame during the pandemic. Some of her viral TikTok videos include her hilarious take on modern dating, titled “If My IUD Could Speak,” and her commentary on social issues, such as “They’re Not Racist, They’re…“.

The storyline of “30 Under Under 30” centers on Síomha, an “unexpectedly unfamous” individual approaching her 35th birthday. Despite the years passing by, the allure of her teenage dream to become a pop star still lingers in her mind. But is it possible? Is there success beyond 30 under 30?

The opening song, featuring the catchy line “life is embarrassing,” perfectly sets the tone for the theme of the performance. Síomha seamlessly interacts with the audience, asking the question “In what way are you a disappointment to your teenage self?”. The show explores various episodes of her life, from being born into a family of artists to her relationships that did not last.

Síomha Hennessy is hilarious, entertaining, and raw. She combines both comical and embarrassing anecdotes from her life with a unique perspective on growing up and growing older. One of the highlights for me was when she made a funny, ‘witchy’ impression of her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend while looking at her pictures on Instagram.

While the main plot revolves around the number 30 – two 30s in the name of the show, being older than 30 – this show will resonate with anyone who considers themselves a late bloomer regardless of their age. Speaking from experience, even though I’m closer to 18 than 30, I still found it incredibly enjoyable.

Síomha’s unique blend of music, comedy, and clever humor kept the audience laughing throughout the entire performance. “30 Under 30” is a heartfelt journey – a must-see for anyone looking for a good laugh and exceptional talent.
