An event commemorating the Miners’ Strike of 1984 will take place on Saturday 20th July from 2pm at National Mining Museum Scotland in Newtongrange.
An afternoon of Poetry and Song relating to the 1984 Miners’ Strike will be performed by poet Rab Wilson and musician Sean Gray who have woven together a tapestry of tales, both triumphant and tragic, from this pivotal period.
Their voices resonate in the evocative setting of the museum’s old Power House, where the echoes of the past come alive. Experience the passion and pain, the victories and losses, as art pays homage to the miners and their families. Be transported through time with excerpts from Rab Wilson’s stirring new book, “Collier Laddie,” and the soulful melodies of Seán Gray’s latest CD, “Fixed Assets.”
Gillian Rankin, Marketing & Events Manager at the museum said: “The museum is delighted to be hosting Rab and Sean’s performance. This is an excellent and fitting tribute to Scottish miners who lived and died working for their families, communities and their country and a timely occasion as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the miners’ strike.”

A bar will be available before the performance and during the interval and the museum’s café is open from 10am – 5pm on the day.
