Midlothian Tourism Forum members shared a wide range of tourism developments in the area at their AGM this week at Arniston House

Members heard about the early success of the Alpine Coaster at Midlothian Snowsports Centre, which is expected to attract thousands more visitors to the area this year, as well as new developments at Go Ape! In Dalkeith Country Park, a busy events programme at Dalkeith Country Park and future plans for the national Mining Museum.

In the area’s accommodation, a major refurbishment has begun at Dalhousie Castle, room refurbishments have been completed at The Original Rosslyn Inn, a new ‘cold tub’ has been introduced to complement the hot tub at Pentland Pods and new lodges have opened at Springfield Farm near Penicuik. The Forum’s newest member business, Newhall Estate, expect a busy year ahead with weddings, accommodation and filming.

Midlothian Tourism Forum is also developing new initiatives for the year including new trails on its website, www.visitmidlothian.co.uk, taking in film and tv locations across the area, such as Outlander at Arniston House and The Da Vinci Code at Rosslyn Chapel and a new treasure trail app to discover Dalkeith.

Ian Gardner, Chair of the Forum, said:

“For a small area, it’s great to see so much happening, which will reinforce the reasons for coming to explore the area and really enhance the visitor experience across Midlothian.”

The Forum is a membership organisation, which brings together local businesses, VisitScotland and Midlothian Council to develop the tourism offering across Midlothian. Further information on membership is available from liz@midlothiantourismforum.co.uk
