Proposed swimming pool
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A barn is to be converted into a private swimming pool in a Borders village.
Scottish Borders Council has approved plans for the renovation of the farm building to form the pool at Gatehousecote in Bonchester Bridge.
The work would include the provision of a changing room and a plant room.
In his report approving the application, planning officer Stuart Small stated: “The applicant has confirmed that the pool is for the sole use of the owner of the farmhouse and that it will be used by family members and friends only.

“Overall, the proposal would result in the sustainable reuse of an existing building and the proposed alterations have been sensitively designed.”
A report with the application, submitted by Philippa Shirley-Beavan, said: “The proposals do not propose any additional roof area or hard-standing area.
“Any drainage required for the swimming pool will only be following dechlorination and will comply with SEPA regulations.
“Proposals for this will be submitted as part of obtaining a building warrant.
“There is ample provision for refuse/recycling storage space within existing farmhouse and steading.”
