A beacon will be lit around 19:30 at Hillend in Midlothian to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday 21 April 2016

It will form part of a chain of beacons around the UK and is an important part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.

Midlothian Council has registered the Hillend beacon to be one of over 1,000 beacons that will be lit.

Her Majesty the Queen has agreed to light the principle beacon in Windsor and the rest of the country will follow shortly afterwards.

The beacon will be lit around 19:30.

The council’s Chief Executive, Kenneth Lawrie said: “We are delighted to be participating in the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.

“This is an important occasion in the UK, especially coming so soon after Her Majesty visited Newtongrange as part of the official opening of the Borders Railway in September 2015. We wanted to make sure the county was part of the national celebrations.

“The beacon will be lit for 20 to 30 minutes, so be sure to look out for it on Thursday 21 April 2016.”

Email your photos of the Beacon to info@midlothianview.com or send via facebook page HERE and we will publish them.
