Bonchester Bridge play park

Playtime in a Borders village has been revitalised thanks to the latest upgrade as part of an ongoing £5m masterplan.
Bonchester Bridge play park has benefited from a full refurbishment, including all new play equipment and safety surfacing as Scottish Borders Council’s investment in play facilities continues.
The new and improved play space boasts 15 pieces of equipment, each offering a variety of activities, including a feature agility trail incorporating a balance beam, climbing wall and rope crossing.
Also included are two multi-play units, a double bay swing, see-saw, wooden stilts and rocket roller.
The facility caters for children from ages one to 15 years with many of the new pieces of equipment installed designed to include accessibility features, meaning play opportunities for young people of all ages and abilities.
A variety of construction materials have been used including highly durable Robinia and pine wood sourced from responsible, sustainable forestry.
It is the latest play facility to have undergone a full refurbishment as part of SBC’s commitment to spending almost £5m to enhance play facilities and provide meaningful play opportunities for all children and young people.
This prioritised capital investment programme was agreed for the period 2022-2029 with play facility upgrades being planned in consultation with communities across a range of sites.
Since 2022, SBC has completed the renewal of play parks in 19 communities across the region, ranging from destination play parks and skate parks to local community facilities.
Councillor John Greenwell, SBC’s executive member for Roads and Public Space Development, said: “Our commitment to improving the play estate across the Scottish Borders is seeing the investment of nearly £5m pounds on ensuring future generations of children and young people have modern and fit-for-purpose facilities to enjoy.
“I am extremely pleased to see the Bonchester Bridge facility now re-opening following significant investment and would in particular like to thank the generosity of two local businesses – Wiggly Worms Nursery and Chris McIntosh Engineering Services – for their donations which funded the inclusion of the balance posts as part of the overall refurbishment.”
