Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
Bus services at the centre of Galashiels will be impacted by roadworks all of this week and next, passengers have been informed.
The town’s High Street is closed to allow essential utility works from SGN gas and Scottish Water to be carried out.
Borders Buses says that will result in the bus stops on Bank Street, Iceland and Bridge Place (X95) not being served between Monday, January 5 and Friday, January 16.
Service X62 will operate from Transport Interchange via Market Street, Paton Street, Currie Road, Ladhope Vale and Bridge Place to rejoin normal route from Island Street.
The first bus stop to be served after the departure from the Transport Interchange will be at Hall Street.
The service X95 Northbound will operate from Transport Interchange via Market Street, Paton Street, Currie Road, Ladhope Vale to rejoin the normal route from High Buckholmeside.
The first bus stop to be served after the Transport Interchange will be Ladhope Bank at High Buckholmeside.
A spokesperson for SGN said: “Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout, and businesses will remain open as usual.
“We appreciate that working on busy roads such as these can be frustrating, and we are doing everything we can, alongside Scottish Water, to get this essential work done as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We’d like to thank everyone affected for their patience, understanding and support as we work to connect the new properties to the gas and water network.”
