Eyemouth Community Centre
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A Berwickshire community centre under threat of closure is preparing for a major spruce-up as it looks forward to a brighter future.
Eyemouth Community Centre is facing potential closure as part of a review of Live Borders, a charitable trust managing leisure and cultural services for Scottish Borders Council.
Consultants have recommended either closure or a community asset transfer for the centre.
This is part of a broader review aiming to address financial challenges faced by Live Borders since the pandemic, which has led to proposals for closing several facilities, including libraries, swimming pools, and community centres.
The council has stressed that no final decision has been taken on any individual facility as consultations are ongoing.
But now the management committee at the Eyemouth facility are fighting back.
It has given the green light to major upgrades at the centre in Albert Road.
On the agenda are refurbishments of hall one and room one, carpet cleans, ceiling repairs at hall two and restoring wooden floors in both halls.
Quotes to carry out the work are now being sought from local painters, decorators and carpet cleaners.
A centre spokesperson said: “These changes will boost income, enhance your experience, and prepare the centre for the future.
“We can’t wait to bring it all to life.”
