Langlee Community Centre
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
Groups or individuals considering taking over the running of much-loved facilities in the the Borders are invited to a gathering next month.
The event at Langlee Community Centre in Galashiels on Tuesday, May 19, from 4pm to 6pm, is for community organisations considering long-term lease or ownership of land or buildings.
It explains community ownership, shares practical support on feasibility, engagement and funding and connects participants with key agencies, partners and peer networks to help progress projects.
Community ownership can be something you are considering, because you feel you can make better use of land or buildings and can see a way to deliver clear community benefits, or it might be as a result of a desire to save a much loved asset, that is under threat of closure.
Borders Community Action is bringing together key support agencies and partners to share how they can support you in the journey to community ownership, focusing on feasibility, community engagement and of course funding to support you.
This is an opportunity to hear from and connect with Community Land Scotland, Community Enterprise, Community Ownership Support Service, Scottish Land Fund, South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council.
It is envisaged the event will create a space for sharing of knowledge and resources that can lead to the progression to feasibility, funding and how to engage meaningfully with your community to support the project.
There will be an opportunity to network amongst peers in your area and make vital connections to the support and funding available.
This series will be followed up by further networks later in the year on ‘Trading and Sustainability’ and ’Collaborations & Partnerships’ themes.
