Midlothian Council is inviting the public to come and find out more about fostering during Foster Care Fortnight which runs from 12 – 25 of May. This is the UK’s biggest annual awareness raising campaign for fostering.
The council is holding drop-in information sessions at various Midlothian venues for anyone who would like to gain an insight into fostering.
These will be relaxed informal sessions where members of the public can chat to the fostering team and ask any questions they may have. There will be no obligation to progress further if attendees decide fostering isn’t for them.
The sessions will explain more about the different types of fostering options available to suit both the young people needing foster care and the carers who look after them, for example there is permanent, temporary or respite fostering.

Commenting on the information events being held, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Ellen Scott said:
“Foster Care Fortnight is a vital opportunity to shine a light on the incredible impact foster carers make in our community. These public information sessions are not only about raising awareness but also about encouraging more people to step forward and explore fostering. We know there are many compassionate individuals and families out there who could offer a safe, loving home to a child in need. I encourage anyone even a little bit curious about fostering to drop in to one of these events to find how they could make a difference.”
The theme of Foster Care Fortnight this year is The Power of Relationships. The campaign wants to convey that at the heart of every fostering journey are the connections that people make.Foster Care Fortnight | The Fostering Network
