At the full Council meeting today, Midlothian Council’s Depute Leader Councillor Jim Muirhead explained why Council Leader Councillor Derek Milligan was unable to attend.

Cllr Muirhead told councillors: “Apologies for Councillor Milligan.

“Can I draw Council’s attention to the reasons for Councillor Milligan’s absence?

“The Council Leader was admitted to hospital on 16th September after feeling unwell.

“Since then he has gone through major heart surgery and will be following the instructions of the medical professionals to recuperate for a period of 8 to 12 weeks and will return to duty when he has fully recovered.

“Speaking with Derek yesterday I am pleased to say that the procedure seems to have gone very well and he is now out of hospital and we look forward to Derek being back at work as soon as he is well enough to return.

“I’m sure provost that the Council would want to send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
