Midlothian-Council-Meetings-online

Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Luke Jackson

Members of the public can now again watch Midlothian Council meetings live online.

Before the Covid pandemic both the full council meeting, attended by all councillors, and the planning committee were available to watch live online and later on catch-up.

This service had to be suspended during lockdown as it relied on councillors being in the council chamber and instead the meetings were recorded and a day or so later uploaded to the council’s YouTube channel.

The council are now introducing a new service so that these meetings will be available to view via a Microsoft Teams events link, which residents will be able to find on the planning and full Council pages of the council website.

Just use the calendar to find the meeting invite and agenda papers a few days beforehand.

The new service will also give the public the chance to view proceedings at both the full Council and planning committee live.

Note from the editor: If you have never watched a council meeting before then I suggest you give it a try. It is both interesting and informative to listen to the discussion and see how decisions are made. Next time there is nothing on Netflix give it a go!
