Midlothian Council is serving up three new tennis sites, aiming to have the sports facilties open in time for the summer holidays.

Opening three new venues, King’s Park Dalkeith, Abbeylands Newtongrange and Beeslack Penicuik, two tennis courts will be on each, providing 6 new courts in total.

The tennis courts are funded through an initiative with the Lawn Tennis Association with the council planning to have the courts open in time for when the schools go off for summer.

Charging £5 per court, the council predict an income of £7k per year per site with an income of £21k combined across the three sites.

A spokesperson from the council said, “All three sites are expected to cumulatively generate £21k”.

This assumption is based on the courts being used 4 hours per day, 7 days per week for 26 weeks of the year with an income of £5 per court.

The tennis courts generated no income over the last 5 years due to the facilities being shut.

The new courts will be available to book via the Clubspark app that provides a convenient way for tennis players to book venues.

With the new courts recently resurfaced, the council are aiming to have the courts open in time for the school holidays and the Wimbledon fortnight.
