Lasswade Road approaching the A7 which will be closed

Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Luke Jackson

Midlothian Council will start work on Monday 7 July to build new footpaths, safe crossings, and bus stops on the west side of Eskbank, which has recently expanded.

When finished, these improvements will make it easier for people to use public transport and reach places like Eskbank rail station and Midlothian Community Hospital using a new footpath.

A short stretch of the Lasswade Road, from the roundabout at the A7 to the junction with Captains Gardens, will be closed from Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July and again on Monday 14 July to Monday 3 August while the work is underway. Local diversions will be in place along the B6392 (Melville Road) and the A7.

This project is separate from the recent A7 urbanisation consultation and is part of the Local Transport Strategy.

The work is fully paid for by developer contributions and will include:

– Resurfacing 12,000 m² of road

– Better, dimmable street lighting

– Improved drainage

– Safe crossings and better pedestrian access while keeping the current road width of 7.3m

– Green/blue strips to separate pedestrians from the road and add drainage where possible
