Police Scotland Crime Beat Report for Dalkeith, Midlothian South and Midlothian East
For period between Monday 3rd and Sunday 9th April 2023.
Dalkeith
Between 3.20pm on Sunday 2nd April and 3.20pm on Tuesday 4th April a property at Bruce Gardens, Dalkeith was damaged after being spray painted. Enquiries are ongoing.
Around 9.15pm on Monday 3rd April a bus stop at Eskbank Road, Dalkeith was reportedly damaged by a group of youths. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the youths.
Around 1.30am on Tuesday 4th April Police received a report of loud vehicles racing along the roads in the area of Eskbank and the A7. Road Traffic Officers attended and carried out patrols, however no vehicles were traced at that time.
Between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday 5th April a grey VW, T Roc parked in Redcroft Street, Danderhall was struck by a vehicle, which thereafter failed to stop. Enquiries are ongoing.
On Thursday 6th and Friday 7th April Funded Midlothian Community Action Team and Community Officers in High Visibility and plain clothes teamed up with staff from Lothian Transport to carry out patrols in Dalkeith, Gorebridge and Rosewell due to increased antisocial behaviour on and towards Lothian buses. During the patrols, officers engaged with a number of youths, one of whom was heavily under the influence of alcohol and had to be conveyed home and left in the care of their parents.
Around 11.35pm on Saturday 8th April officers were made aware of a report of a fight, where persons involved had walked off in the direction of Cowden Park. On officers attending at Cowden Park, they observed a male who attempted to make off, however stopped when requested to by Police. The male was found in possession of tablets, which were seized pending further enquiry.
Newtongrange/Mayfield
Around 3.20pm on Monday 3rd April following a report received from a member of the public, officers attended and recovered a bike in the Blackcot Drive area, which through enquiry they established had been reported stolen.
Around midday on Tuesday 4th April a window of a property at Salisbury View, Mayfield was damaged. Enquiries are ongoing.
Between 8.40pm and 10.10pm on Tuesday 4th April, a black BMW 1 series parked on Lingerwood Road, Newtongrange was damaged after bricks were thrown at it. Enquiries are ongoing.
On Thursday 6th April a vehicle was stopped by officers in the Waverley Park area of Mayfield which officers noted had a smell of cannabis emanating from it. The driver who failed a Roadside Drug Wipe test was arrested and subsequently released pending further analysis.
On Thursday 6th April Community Officers and Road Policing Officers together with partners from The Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Trading Standards carried out a joint initiative on the A7 at Newtongrange as part of an initiative to tackle bogus worker activities in Midlothian. During the initiative a number of vehicles were stopped, where offences detected included four vehicles being found not to have MOT’s, where conditional offers were issued to the drivers, and a person being found to have an outstanding Non Appearance Warrant who was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. There were also seven immediate prohibitions carried out as a result of vehicle defects, whilst several other drivers who were found to have vehicle faults, which required to be fixed were issued with paperwork.
Between 9.30pm and 9.50 pm on Friday 7th April a window of a property at Old school Crescent, Mayfield was damaged. Enquiries are ongoing.
Between 4pm on Friday 7th April and 8am on Saturday 8th April a black Vauxhall Mokka car parked at the rear of Bogwood Court was damaged. Enquiries are ongoing.
Gorebridge
Around 8pm on Monday 3rd April a tyre was set on fire within Woodland at Barleyknowe, Gorebridge. Enquiries are ongoing.
Overnight between Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th April a silver Suzuki Swift parked in Birkenside, Gorebridge was struck by a vehicle, which then failed to stop. Enquiries are ongoing.
Around 8pm on Tuesday 4th April a report was received of a container in Lady Brae Place, Gorebridge having been set alight. SFRS attended and extinguished the fire. Enquiries are ongoing
A 32 year old male was arrested and charged on Tuesday 4th April after Police received a report of a male causing a disturbance in the Barleyknowe Lane area. The male was held in custody to appear at court.
Around 8.30pm on Saturday 8th April a female entered shop premises in Hunterfield Road and stole items from within. Police are following a positive line of enquiry.
