Police Scotland Crime Beat Report for Dalkeith, Midlothian South and Midlothian East
For period between Monday 17th and Sunday 23rd April 2023.
Dalkeith
Between 7.15pm and 7.40pm on Monday 17th April a property in Allan Terrace was broken into. Nothing appears to have been stolen.
On the evening of Monday 17th April a member of the public in the Dalkeith area received a message from someone claiming to be a family member asking for financial help. Thankfully no money was lost on this occasion. However please be aware of this type of scam.
On Monday 19th April a vehicle, which was found not to have an MOT was stopped by Police in Lauder Road, Dalkeith. A female driver was subsequently cautioned and charged and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
A female driver was cautioned and charged in connection with not having a valid licence or Insurance after being observed driving by Police on Saturday 22nd April in Newbattle Road, Dalkeith
Newtongrange / Mayfield
Around 3.25pm on Monday 17th April a rear window of a silver Vauxhall Estate, which was parked in the carpark at Newbattle Campus was damaged after an item was thrown at it whilst the driver was within. A number of youths were observed in the area, however it is not known if any of them were involved, or who was responsible for the damage. Enquiries are ongoing.
On the evening of Wednesday 19th April officers observed a person on an off road bike in Main Street Newtongrange, who rode off on being seen by Police, failing to stop. Police are following a positive line of enquiry.
Around 4.20am on Thursday 20th April a report was received of a vehicle on fire in the vicinity of Watt Grove, Mayfield. SFRS attended and extinguished the fire. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
Between 3.30pm and 10pm on Friday 21st April a property at Cushat Gardens, Mayfield was broken into where items including jewellery were stolen. Enquiries are ongoing.
Gorebridge
Around 4.55am on Thursday 20th April a report was received of garden furniture having been damaged at an address in Lady Emily Way, Gorebridge. A large boulder was found nearby, which appears to have been thrown, causing the damage. Enquiries are ongoing.
On the morning of Thursday 20th April a female entered a shop in Hunterfield Road, Gorebridge and stole items from within. The female was subsequently approached by staff who recovered the property. Police are following a positive line of enquiry.
Around 4.35pm on Saturday 22nd April a report was received of a group of youths at Powdermill Brae, drinking, kicking buses and being abusive to drivers. Officers attended, however there was no trace of the youths on Police arrival.
Around 6pm on Sunday 23rd April a quad bike was observed being driven by a member of the public in the vicinity of Yorkston Road in a manner, which led them to suspect it may have been stolen. The rider who appeared to realise he had been seen, got off the quad, leaving it behind, and entered a grey Landrover, which thereafter drove off. Police attended and following enquiries established the quad had been stolen from out with the area. Enquiries are ongoing.
