Dalkeith Country Park’s new retail, food, drink and wellbeing space, named Restoration Yard, is set to open its doors on Monday 25 July.

More than £7million has been invested in the new offering by the park’s owner, the Duke of Buccleuch, and the redevelopment has created around 50 new jobs.

Restoration Yard will feature two floors of shopping and a glass-walled restaurant space situated in the park’s restored 18th century stables and courtyard which is located just five miles outside of Edinburgh. A spacious Wellbeing Lab will be housed on the first floor of the building which will offer courses in mindfulness and emotional healing.

The store will champion design, with carefully chosen homeware, health and beauty, accessories, and gifts as well as a children’s section.

Restoration Yard’s exciting concept has been developed in partnership with Amanda Pratt, designer and previous owner of Ireland’s leading retail and food experience, Avoca.

Amanda said: “It’s very exciting to see Restoration Yard take shape. We wanted to create something new and surprising, offering an altogether different, holistic experience.

“The word restoration in our name doesn’t just refer to the restored stables, but also that it will be a space to restore yourself, and find joy and calm in the surroundings.

“It’s a beautiful building, steeped in history and it has been wonderful to reimagine and renew its fabric and spirit.”

Alongside the renovated Stableyard, the new 1,000m2 Fort Douglas playground opens on the same day, and will take pride of place in the heart of Dalkeith Country Park.

The impressive adventure playground features a network of high-rise walkways, balance blocks, log walks, jungle climbers, jumping disks, climbing walls, balancing boards, suspended tyres, basket swings and tube slides.

There will be a dedicated toddlers area, suitable for children aged between three and five years-old as well as the main playground area which is suited to children aged between six and 12 years-old.

Fort Douglas will be priced £3 for three to five year-olds and £5 for six to 12 year-olds with under twos and adults accompanying children in the playground free of charge.

The park’s walking and cycling routes have also been upgraded and a programme of additional activities is currently being developed by Visitor Services Manager, Andrew Elmer.

Andrew said: “We already offer some fantastic activities including an action-packed Bushcraft Survival workshop. We’re expanding the programme to include zorbing, arts and crafts and also a bike hire service which will be in place in the coming months.

“We’re confident the redevelopment, coupled with a brand new activity programme, will position Dalkeith Country Park as a must-visit destination for families across the region.”
