Dalkeith Country Park’s dazzling Spectacle of Light has officially opened, kick starting the Christmas programme of events.

The magical, after-dark family adventure opened on Friday 2 December and runs until Saturday 31 December 2022. Families can enjoy the night-time wonder of Fort Douglas, with a pirate map to guide them, as they search for gold coins through tunnels, down slides, along zip wires and over rope bridges at the Treasure Island themed event.

This year, Dalkeith Country Park will be supporting its 2022/23 charity partner Make 2nds Count through a dedicated area of Spectacle of Light. The ‘Tree of Hope’ will allow visitors to donate £1 to tie a purple ribbon onto trees within the after-dark family adventure in honor or memory of a loved one. From 2 to 31 December the tree will become a beacon of hope for those affected by secondary breast cancer with funds raised going towards Make 2nds Count incredible work, supporting those affected by this incurable disease.

And that’s not all. Across Dalkeith Country Park – within Fort Douglas and Restoration Yard’s store and eateries – collection tins will be placed at till points for any loose change you can spare. These donations will go towards The Karen Henderson Legacy Fund, which is a part of Make 2nds Count, and raises money in memory of Karen who was a dearly loved visitor to both the Park and our friends at Restoration Yard. The proceeds it raises are used directly to support specific Make 2nds Count projects that have been created to enhance the quality of life of secondary breast cancer patients.

Visitors can also find signage around The Park and Restoration Yard with a QR code linking directly to Make 2nds Count donation page.

This years’ experience is inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, in celebration of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022. Little adventurers can run, climb, slide and swashbuckle through Fort Douglas as they search for treasure. A cast of characters reminiscent of this childhood classic story will help guide families round the event.
