East Lothian Mums Club's new clubhouse in Haddington
Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson
An East Lothian mums walking group has officially opened their first clubhouse aiming to provide mums with ‘a home from home where they can be comfortable’.
Founded in January 2025 to help mums in East Lothian by providing mental and physical support through group walks, East Lothian Mums Club (formerly East Lothian Mums Walking Club) has grown fast where they can now offer a hub for support, friendship and community.
Explaining that walking ‘will always be the backbone of the group’, the walking club aims to open this new hub on Hospital Road in Haddington on 7 June with an official soft launch taking place this Friday (29 May).
After being awarded £13,640 from the National Lottery, club founder Sarah Noon alongside partner Meg Black were looking to expand their outreach and offer a place where you can ‘kick your shoes , be comfortable and feel safe’, providing various types of support to mothers.
After being contacted by Volunteer Centre East Lothian who shared that Joe’s Gym in Haddington were looking to open their doors to a community group, Sarah was put in contact with gym founders Donald and Gregor MacMillan who ‘without them it would not be possible’.

Donald and Gregor were more than happy to provide support with Sarah explaining that they were very keen, leading to East Lothian Mum’s Walking Club’s official clubhouse being established within the gym grounds in an annex building.
Highlighting that the motivation behind expanding the walking group into now having its own hub for support was to provide mum’s with a space’ without the expensive coffees and the stress of keeping their baby entertained’, Sarah Noon explained:
“We feel it is important to support mums by giving them access to lower cost/free activities that will be a benefit to them physically and mentally.
“Building friendships as an adult can be hard and when you’re feeling vulnerable, lonely or isolated due to having a baby or toddler it can be really hard to feel good so if Meg and I can make even just one mum feel good then we have achieved our goal.
“Our clubhouse is a home from home for mums of all ages and stages. We will offer support, friendship, community and always a little bit of chaos. We want you to come, kick your shoes off, be comfortable and feel safe. There will always be tea, coffee, drinks and snacks. Children are always welcome and will be provided for.
“With breastfeeding support, sleep support, mummy Pilates, book club, walks and toddler Thursdays there is always going to be something for everyone. Meg and I cannot stress how much we want you to feel safe, comfortable and that this is a space for you.”

Sarah started the walking group following her 2nd child after experiencing a lack of information during her pregnancies. Starting with a Whatsapp group looking for local mums in Haddington to meet on group walks every Thursday and Friday and serving tea and coffee from the back of her car, the group has expanded fast now, opening their hub and launching a website with information for mothers.
Explaining that they will continue to apply for funding to keep the clubhouse going as open as possible, Sarah and Meg are just putting the finishing touches on the group’s new home, excited to open their doors at the beginning of June.
“We believe mums shouldn’t have to pay through the nose for simple things like mental and physical support”, Sarah added, “We will continue to improve on the clubhouse as much as possible.
“It would not have been possible without Donald and Gregor MacMillan. Sharing the space with the Joes Gym has been the best experience and long may it last.”
The club plans to run other support groups in the future to help parents of all ages, not just parents of younger children and babies, alongside support groups to help parents who are neurodivergent or have neurodivergent children.
Alongside this, Sarah is planning on creating an East Lothian Mums Club mural at their new clubhouse, commemorating the essential support they provide through a community event allowing everyone in the club to contribute to.
