East Linton GP surgery to replace its temporary extension

Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Marie Sharp

A village surgery is set to replace a temporary consulting area 15 years after it was due to be removed with a brand new extension.

NHS Lothian has been given the go ahead to create a new addition to East Linton GP surgery with two new consulting rooms and office space.

A report by East Lothian planning officers revealed a temporary extension was added to the surgery in 2005 with an initial lifespan of five years attached to it.

Now 20 years on they intend to replace it with a ‘like for like’ new extension to continue giving the local surgery additional space to see patients.

The report said: “The proposed extension would be single-storey and would attach to the east elevation of the existing building at a point where there is an existing doorway.

“Like the previously approved extension, the proposed extension would provide additional consulting room and office accommodation for the medical centre. The intended use of the proposed extension is to meet the ongoing operational needs of the medical centre, which is an established use within this part of East Linton.”

Plans to demolish the original extension do not require permission and no objections to the replacement were lodged with the council.

Granting permission for the new addition to the surgery, officers said: “Due to its single storey height, positioning and materials the proposed extension would not appear as a harmfully dominant, intrusive or incongruous addition.

“By virtue of its size, scale and form, the proposed extension would be well integrated into its surroundings. It would not be harmful to the character and appearance of the existing building or the area.”
