Edinburgh Tram
Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson
Edinburgh Trams on Friday announced an increase in ticket prices, in line with its sister company, Lothian Buses.
Fare changes will come into effect from start of service on Sunday 22 February and reflects an increased operational cost faced by the operator over the past year.
The fare changes will see the cost of an Adult Single fare rise from £2.20 to £2.40, and an Adult Return fare rise from £4.20 to £4.60. Day Tickets will also increase by 50p, to £6. From the same date, Edinburgh Park Short Hop Single Tickets will also no longer be available to purchase.
The Airport Fare zone tickets will remain frozen at the current rates – £7.90 for single tickets and £9.50 for an open return.
Proportional fare increase will apply to all tickets, with full details below.

Sarah Singh, Head of Service Delivery at Edinburgh Trams, said:
“These fare rises represent an increase in our operating costs, and allow us to meet our commitments to providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly travel across the city.
“Although we understand that fare increases are never ideal, investment in our infrastructure, colleagues and fleet of trams will ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of the city.”
Transport and Environment Convener, Councillor Stephen Jenkinson said:
“It’s no accident that Edinburgh has a first-rate public transport network. This is credit to our multi-award-winning operators and the infrastructure which keeps the Capital moving every day.
“I appreciate that fare increases may be a concern, but these reflect increased operating costs and ensure that these vital services are maintained and improved. Our city is unique in the sense that both Lothian and Edinburgh Trams are publicly owned, meaning that every penny collected in fares is reinvested to meet the needs of our growing city.”
Customers can still buy discounted bundles of tickets on the et app or pre-book some ticket types on Edinburgh Ticket to ensure that they can access the best fares.
