Edinburgh Trams is celebrating another award-winning year after a successful night at the Global Light Rail Awards, in which the multi award-winning tramway secured the ‘Richard Brown Best Customer Initiative’ award for Tap On, Tap Off (TOTO) on Wednesday 1 October.

The accolade recognised the operator’s outstanding efforts to deliver industry-leading initiatives that enhance the customer experience, further cementing its reputation and commitment to being one of the UK’s most customer-focused transport providers.

TOTO, which was introduced earlier this year and was the first project of its kind in Scotland, was purpose-designed to put the customer first – helping to ensure that customers only ever pay the best-value adult daily fare while enjoying integration with local bus services.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said:

“To be recognised by the Global Light Rail Awards is a tremendous honour and reflects the hard work and dedication to the entire team across the network who have been working behind the scenes to ensure TOTO was a success.

“We pride ourselves on continuing to enhance the customer experience within the Scottish capital, and this award is recognition of those efforts on an international stage.”

The success at the Global Light Rail Awards follows a record-breaking summer for Edinburgh Trams, with more than 1.5 million passenger journeys made in August – the busiest month since services began. Over 77,000 journeys were also recorded on a single day, making it all-time daily record – and this was only enhanced with the newly integrated TOTO system, making customer journeys throughout the city even simpler.

Edinburgh Trams continues to play a vital role in Edinburgh’s integrated transport network while supporting the city’s thriving calendar of cultural, music and sporting events across the year, and with TOTO in place, the operator will continue to support locals and visitors alike in their travel across the Scottish capital.
