Eyemouth, Scottish Borders
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A Berwickshire high street can look forward to a mini-transformation after £50k in funding was rubber-stamped.
Eyemouth Community Council (ECC) has now received Place Based Investment Funding from Scottish Borders Council.
The council applied for this funding several months ago and, after a rigorous assessment process, has been told it has been successful in securing £45,000 to invest directly into Eyemouth High Street.
Together with the required 10 per cent contribution from local businesses, this means a total of £50,000 will be invested over the next 12 months.
This funding will support local shops, who can now apply for the painting of shop fronts, new doors and windows and updated or new signage
Hon. Provost George Power and East Berwickshire Independent councillor James Anderson will be leading the application process.
They were out on High Street this week, delivering paper copies and speaking with shop owners about how to apply.
Two businesses have already been identified as needing new doors, and these improvements will begin over the winter months.
Painting works will be quoted for, agreed, and scheduled for the spring. This means an early 2026 boost for local tradespeople, as well as significant support for businesses across our thriving High Street.
The community council has thanked Mr Anderson, who has supported George throughout the application process and will continue to help drive the project forward.
A panel has been formally agreed to assess applications, and updates will be reported at ECC meetings to ensure full transparency.
A community council spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic step forward for Eyemouth — strengthening our High Street, supporting local business, and investing in the future of our town.”
Councillor Anderson added: “As part of working with community councils across East Berwickshire, it’s always important to make the most of funding opportunities that can help drive local projects forward.
“It’s been a pleasure to support George in getting this one over the line.
“In the middle of all the recent challenges with the school and Live Borders, it’s good to finally have something positive to focus on for our community.”
