Fish caught at a Woman's Fly Fishing Day back in September
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
Female-friendly fishing days are returning to the River Tweed for the third year.
A popular programme of Fly Fishing Days for salmon on the Tweed will this year continue a mission to open the sport to more women in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Building on the success of previous seasons, the 2026 series offer a range of guided days across some of the river’s most renowned beats.
Designed for both beginners and experienced anglers, each day includes access to equipment, along with tuition from female casting instructors and coaches.
Set against the backdrop of the Scottish Borders, the programme has grown year-on-year, attracting women keen to learn new skills, build confidence on the water and spend time on one of the world’s most iconic salmon rivers.
Prices start from £60 per day, deliberately set to encourage participation and welcome more women into the sport.
All proceeds from the days will be donated to TweedStart, the youth angling initiative helping to inspire the next generation of anglers.
Anne Woodcock of the Tweed Foundation said: “Now in its third year, the days continue to grow in confidence and popularity.
“They provide a relaxed and supportive introduction to fly fishing, while giving women the opportunity to experience the River Tweed in a meaningful way. Everyone taking part also supports TweedStart and invest in the future of our river.”
Women joining the days can expect beautiful locations and a friendly, inclusive atmosphere throughout the series.
