Firefighters were in attendance yesterday (Monday, 27 October) at a major blaze at a historic building in Dunbar.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) remained on site while the incident was ongoing at McArthur’s Store in the town’s harbour.

Properties at Custom House Square were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said:

“We have established a rest centre in Dunbar where staff will be on hand to provide food and support to those who have had to evacuate. Please call our contact centre on 01620 827827 if you wish to make use of this facility.

“The bottom of Victoria Street has been closed and we would advise people to avoid the area until the fire service advises the road can reopen.”
