Scottish Borders Council flying Armed Forces Day flag at their Newtown St Boswells headquarters

Scottish Borders Council is flying the Armed Forces Day flag at its headquarters in Newtown St Boswells this week.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the service of men and women in the Forces. This year it takes place on Saturday, June 28.
The flag was raised at a ceremony in Newtown St Boswells on Monday, June 23, by Lieutenant General (retired) John Cooper, who said: “It is an honour to raise the Armed Forces Day flag today, especially in this year when we recognise the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
“This flag symbolises our gratitude and respect for the men and women who serve and have served in our Armed Forces, ensuring our safety and freedom.”
Councillor John Greenwell, SBC’s champion for Armed Forces and Veterans, said: “I am delighted that Scottish Borders Council is once again supporting Armed Forces Day.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by everyone in the military community, from our currently serving troops to the reservists, veterans, cadets, and of course, the families who support them.
“The support shown by our local communities throughout this week is deeply appreciated. As we come together, we recognise the efforts of all those who work tirelessly to maintain the safety and security of our nation.”
