Festival of Friendship 2015

Hungarian Brass Band

Local residents are invited to celebrate Midlothian’s friendships with Heinsberg in Germany and Komarom-Esztergom in Hungary at two special free concerts.

The concerts are on Thursday 15 October at Penicuik High School and on Saturday 17 October at Lasswade High School. Both start at 19:00.

Provost Joe Wallace said: “Midlothian’s links with Komarom – Esztergom and Kreis Heinsberg started in 1973 and since then many thousands of people have taken part in exchange visits.

“Forging these close ties is a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures and societies, brush up on our languages and also make new friends.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the groups from both areas.”

Performing on the nights will be the Tatabanya Show Dancers, the brass band from Mogyorósbánya and accordionist Demeniv Mihály, all from Hungary.

From Kreis Heinsberg, there will be the Big Band, from Geilenkirchen, with the Youth Choir from Hünshoven; and Beilage Extra Cappella from the town of Heinsberg.

Local musicians performing at the Penicuik concert are Penicuik Pipe Band,

Penicuik Silver Band and Penicuik Cappella Singers.

At Lasswade, local entertainers will include Loanhead Guitar Club and the Lasswade High School dancers.

The two concerts are part of a week-long visit by the groups, who will also provide entertainment in a home for the elderly and visit places of interest, in and around Midlothian.
