Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson
This August, Assembly is partnering with Edinburgh Food Project to launch the “7 Minutes for 7 Foodbanks” stage, a vibrant new addition to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Taking place on George Square today and Sunday 17 August between 2 and 5 pm, this lively, fast-paced performance spot invites performers to showcase comedy, magic, and more — all in just seven minutes.
Designed to engage passersby and raise awareness and donations for local foodbanks, the stage will feature talented acts Ali Woods, Skank Sinatra, and Ayoade Bamgboye, and many more (though subject to change). The stage will also feature Sanjay Lago, the winner of Assembly’s ART award. It will be a fun way to connect the community and support those in need during the festival season. Slots have filled up quickly, but there are still a few remaining opportunities. If you’re interested in taking part, please get in touch with the Edinburgh Food Project team to secure your spot.
Edinburgh Food Project provides vital support to those struggling to afford food in Edinburgh. In 2024, their efforts helped distribute 19,734 food parcels, assist 5,726 adults and children, and secure £630,000 for clients through their Money Advice Service — all thanks to community generosity and partnerships like this.
Each minute performed on the “7 Minutes for 7 Foodbanks” stage will make a real difference, helping local foodbanks and the people they support.
Supporting the stage and the Fringe fundraising initiative, Assembly has also
partnered with Edinburgh Food Project to support their internship program.
Tamsin Wake, who took on the role as Edinburgh Food Project’s Fringe Fundraising Intern, shared her experience:
“I’m so excited to be working with Assembly for my internship with Edinburgh Food Project. We’ve got big plans for the 7 Minute Stage and I can’t wait to see how much money we raise with Assembly’s help. It’s going to make such a difference to the people who use our foodbanks.”
