Gensource receiving Energy Efficiency Award
Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson
Musselburgh-based solar energy company Gensource has won a major Scottish Energy Efficiency Award (see Note 1) for design and build projects for clients who include the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS), The David Livingstone Trust and Eastern Western Motor Group (EWMG). The award also recognises Gensource’s work on community and domestic projects, working with clients from Orkney to East Lothian on solar installations of all sizes. The firm was additionally highly commended in the Large-Scale Project category for its work with EWMG.
Speaking for Gensource, Commercial and Operations Director Robert Wilson said, “We are delighted to have been recognised by the Energy Efficiency Awards and to have won the Solar PV Installer and Contractor of the Year category for Scotland. It has given us immense satisfaction to have achieved the results we have for our clients and for this to be formally acknowledged with this prestigious, industry-leading award for working with clients in all settings the length and breadth of the country.”
Solar is the cheapest form of energy on the market and offers retailers a way of reducing a major, rising and unpredictable cost in any business or organisation. Electricity costs are currently around double what they were four years ago, and the market has experienced alarming price volatility. The commercial benefits of solar are clear: lower operational expenses, greater energy independence, and a strengthened commitment to environmental responsibility.
Gensource’s work is focused on driving continual energy performance and savings. As Josh King, Gensource Managing Director, says, “Across all our customers, solar energy cost reduction involves an ongoing relationship that goes beyond installation. We work with our clients to provide monthly performance reporting so they can see the impact of their investment. Our business is totally focused on delivering energy that brings with it high-value commercial and environmental benefit.”
The award recognises work with a range of clients, including a large-scale project with Eastern Western Motor Group (EWMG) to cut energy costs by approximately 33% and reduce carbon emissions across eight sites in Scotland. The results achieved through a programme of solar installations are transforming the way in which EWMG consumes energy, and, at the same time, driving competitive advantage for the business.
The impact of the Phase 1 partnership project with EWMG has seen the delivery of 1.11MW of Solar PV. That figure equates to 916,971 kWh of clean affordable energy generated each year, enough to provide electricity for the equivalent of around 250 homes a year – or the equivalent of 3,117,701 miles driven in an EV each year.
