Gladhouse-Reservoir-Road-Closure

Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Luke Jackson

Scottish Water will continue its major investment project at Gladhouse Reservoir, designed to improve safety, functionality, and resilience for the local community and beyond.

To allow this essential work to take place, a section of road on the north shore of Gladhouse Reservoir will be closed from Monday, 9 June 2025, and is expected to remain closed for around two years.

Diversion routes for visitors will be via Temple Village. Directional signage will be in place to guide drivers.

The project includes the removal and replacement of the existing road bridge, along with a major refurbishment of the reservoir’s spillway – both critical to the reservoir’s overall performance and safety.

These improvements are part of a wider, multi-million-pound programme to ensure the reservoir continues to operate safely and meet modern standards.

Scottish Water has confirmed that visitors will still be able to access Gladhouse Reservoir while the work takes place, however; there will be no alternative walkway via the road bridge route.

Visitors accessing the reservoir by car should also be mindful of the clearway designation areas, which will be enforced during the road closure to prevent vehicles blocking essential access on the road for emergency services, operational staff, and residents.

The work is being delivered by Scottish Water’s delivery partner, George Leslie Ltd.

The publicly owned utility thanks residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation during this period.
