Midlothian Council are encouraging as many residents as possible to take part in the Scottish council elections on Thursday 4 May.

Voters in the county will go to the polls for the Midlothian Council elections. This election will be the first time that 16 and 17 year olds have been able to vote for councillors to represent them on their local authority. However, anyone who isn’t registered to vote won’t be able to take part and have their say.

The deadline to register to vote in these elections is Thursday 18 April 2017.

It only takes a few minutes to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote . It’s a chance to join the thousands of people across Scotland being encouraged to register in the coming weeks.

Returning Officer Kenneth Lawrie said:

“The local council elections are literally ‘on your doorstep’. Anyone not yet registered to vote should do so as soon as possible so they can have their say on issues that affect their day-to-day lives locally. I’d urge people living in Midlothian to spread the message amongst family and friends that it only takes a few minutes to complete the form and register to vote online.”

Local residents can get a paper copy of the registration form by contacting the electoral registration office on 0131 344 2500.
